7 SUMMITS HOLDS OPENING CEREMONY ABOVE MT. EVEREST BASE CAMP

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23, 2011

With Mt. Everest in the background, the 7 Summits Foundation initiated the “Save the Himalayas” concert series with an opening ceremony along the Kala Patthar Trail on Tuesday, March 22, 2011. During the eight day trek from Lukla to Gorakshep, the musicians collaborated and composed a song that has become the centerpiece theme of the “Save the Himalayas” initiative. Coming together as one to become the “Voice from the Top of the World,” the opening ceremony included the unveiling of the concert series banner, the performance of the theme song by the musicians, and words from President AC Sherpa.

Addressing those in attendance, Sherpa announced, “Today we set forth as leaders in the fight to stop Global Warming. We are all called as one to be stewards of the Himalayan glaciers, of Nepal, and of this Earth, while inspiring those around us to embody the same mission.”

Following the descent from Everest Base Camp, the 7 Summits Foundation will be holding a series of concerts from Lukla to Kathmandu. The first concert will be this Monday, March 28, 2011, at 6 pm in Lukla.
To continue to raise awareness of the impacts of Global Warming on the Himalaya Region, AC Sherpa will be attempting to set a new mountaineering record by summiting Mt. Everest three times in one climbing season following the concert series.
